TAQA Internal Quality Assurer (IV)

Internal Quality Assurer

(formerly known as Internal Verifier)

This qualification, awarded by City & Guilds,  is designed for those in, or looking to go into assessment and internal quality assurance. It replaces the previous Assessor units (which expired in December 2010), and represents the change in approach to assessment and quality assurance practice.

All of the TAQA qualifications require candidates to demonstrate their knowledge of assessment through the mandatory knowledge unit, thus providing a strong basis to develop candidates’ practical evidence.

They are designed to support the Assessment and Quality Assurance of all Apprenticeships, Vocational Qualifications, Awards, Certificates, and Diplomas.

The City and Guilds TAQA Internal Verifier modules are:

  • 6317 - 40 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (Verifier)
  • 6317- 41 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (Verifier)
  • 6317- 42 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (Verifier) (part funded course)

6317- 40 Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (1 unit, 6 credits)

This is a knowledge only qualification, and is designed to provide the theory and knowledge behind the verifier function, so will be suitable for those who need to know about the role, but who are not carrying out quality assurance or verification themselves.

6317- 41 Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (2 units 12 credits)

If you carry out the role of quality assurance, this qualification will provide you with the knowledge (as per 6317-40 above), and an additional unit which covers planning and monitoring quality assurance activity, and advising assessors. You will need to have access to a minimum of two assessors, and you will be assessed in your work place, undertaking quality assurance.

6317- 42 Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (3 units, 17 credits)

This qualification incorporates both of the units above (as per 6317-41), with an additional unit which covers planning, allocation and monitoring of work done by other IQA’s. It is expected that your area of responsibility would be that of managing or co-ordinating the quality assurance in your organisation, through managing the work of a team of IQA’s. You may also need to develop systems and lead on visits from outside agencies such as awarding organisations.

Entry requirements

There are no formal requirements for this course, however, candidates should be working in, or working towards a role in quality assurance, in addition, it is expected that candidates would have previously achieved the 6317-31 or 6317-32 Assessors qualifications prior to starting the IQA qualifications.

The theory based qualifications provide a good base for those candidates who are trying to enter into quality assurance roles. Those candidates who are already in post, wishing to complete the practical units, should have access to an assessment environment suitable for their area of expertise.

This environment can lead to accredited or non-accredited learning, the NQF or QCF. In addition, they will need to be using the specified methods of assessment for particular units (as detailed in qualification overviews).

The qualifications provide sound knowledge of principles of assessment, and will assist candidates in improving their assessment practice.
