Tier 4 applications

If your course is longer than 6 months you must apply for a visa before you arrive in the UK.

For courses less than 6 months in duration check which visa you will need.

Where to apply

You will need to apply through the British Diplomatic Post (embassy, high commission, consulate) or Visa application Centre (VAC) in the country where you are resident - or the one assigned to cover your country of residence.

Check how long it will take.

Applying onlinee

It is possible to apply online in many countries. After applying, you will still be required to attend an appointment to provide your original passport, supporting documents and the appropriate fees if you have not paid online.

You can schedule an appointment with the visa section online using the e-appointments system. Once you make the appointment online, you will be sent an email confirming the appointment.

You must also print and complete Appendix 8, even if you apply online. Send it in with your supporting documents.

Applying by post

If you do not apply online you must print and complete the application form and appendix 8, to be submitted with all the supporting documents, photocopies of all your documents and payment.
  • Tier 4 - VAF9 and appendix 8
  • Dependants - VAF10
  • Student visitor - VAF 1D

  • you will need to provide your biometric details in person
  • this should take no more than 5 minutes to complete
Your visa application will not be processed until you have met this requirement.
